Memories of Batch #461’s Web Development Bootcamp, with Hazal Yanbay

When you go through a significant challenge, it’s inevitable that you will discover more about yourself. One of the best things I discovered was that I really enjoy coding. Whilst looking for the career that’s right for me, I’ve tried a lot of different things, but coding has become my true passion.
Summary
In every sense, Le Wagon was the best education I’ve ever experienced.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, I hadn’t really discovered the tech industry at all. But during the lockdown, I quickly realized that the tech industry would be the least affected sector as a result of Covid-19. That’s when my interest in tech, and software development especially, really started to grow. This was the thinking behind my decision to join Le Wagon.

I learned a lot of interesting things about myself during the bootcamp.

When you go through a significant challenge, it’s inevitable that you will discover more about yourself. One of the best things I discovered was that I really enjoy coding. Whilst looking for the career that’s right for me, I’ve tried a lot of different things, but coding has become my true passion. My enthusiasm for coding has evolved into something, not only that I enjoy; it is something I want to do continuously. Le Wagon’s bootcamp environment was really valuable, it helped us to feel good psychologically and it was very comforting to know that your teachers and the staff will continuously look after you. Le Wagon Istanbul has created a safe and friendly zone with an amazing dynamic and great levels of communication.

Learning how to code has really changed my mindset too. Whilst learning how to code, I realized that when I’m trying to solve a specific issue, I sometimes over complicate my thought process, and the ways that I try to solve problems. What you learn in tech is that there are multiple solutions, and coding has helped me to discover how to use easier, more logical routes to solve problems.  In every sense, Le Wagon was the best education I’ve ever experienced.

I did not expect to dive into coding that quickly

I was very pleasantly surprised by the method of teaching. I had never expected such a detailed and practical-based curriculum with so many interesting and enjoyable coding challenges. We learned the theoretical side of programming during the morning lectures and then, for the rest of the day, put all that information to good use with a lot practice! I did not expect to dive into coding that quickly. This is what surprised me the most. We were coding challenges from Day 1. Now that the bootcamp is over, I miss the campus environment and of course the fantastic people I met and worked with. Getting up early to go to class in the morning and then starting coding, we had a great routine going which I really enjoyed, and I miss that daily discipline. The word “discipline” can sounds a little scary, but it’s what we needed, and we put it to good use, so it was a pleasant kind of discipline!

Le Wagon’s curriculum was the most rewarding learning system ever!

Now that I have time to reflect, I think the curriculum that Le Wagon has built, and the way of learning that it enables, has been created by wonderful minds.

I was a complete beginner before the bootcamp and every day I learned so many new things and put them into good practice. Thanks to Le Wagon’s curriculum my confidence has increased, and I have 500 hours of hands-on, practical coding experience.

The last 2 weeks of the bootcamp, known as “Project Weeks” were incredible! During “Project Weeks” we creating a sophisticated web application and coordinated the whole development process with our teammates. It was very enjoyable but also quite stressful. It was a major challenge because we were dealing with so much data and trying to convert this into functioning outputs. Thankfully, we were always supported by Le Wagon’s team and I knew that we would have our product in the end! Le Wagon’s curriculum was the most rewarding learning system ever!

Through Le Wagon’s community I can open many new doors!

Le Wagon has been even more helpful after the bootcamp than I expected. They offer an extra week (Week 10)  for free, called “Career Week” to help us prepare for our futures in tech. We attended webinars with senior Human Resources professionals in the Turkish tech industry, and also with Senior Web Developers internationally. We were coached 1 on 1 to improve our CVs and Linkedin profiles, which was very helpful. At Le Wagon, everyone made me feel supported, by helping us with the job-application process and introducing us to experts from the tech industry so we could learn from  their experiences. This was very important. It feels fantastic to be a part of Le Wagon’s global alumni network and to have a community whereby you can stay in touch with developers like you, get help, or seek job opportunities. I was very aware that I was starting a new chapter in my life, and new things can be scary. Now I feel better informed within this industry and through Le Wagon’s community I can open many new doors!
