Le Wagon part-time : how to combine learning to code with working life

If anyone is hesitating to start the Le Wagon adventure, because of fear about combining your work, social life and the bootcamp, don’t! 

It’s an impressive skill to pick up especially over only for 6 months whilst keeping your day job. Turn yourself into a weapon!

I have an entrepreneurial background, I’ve studied business at university and after that, I founded a few businesses, sold one of them and felt lost without it. I then started working for a tech firm and immediately fell in love with the idea of development as a life long nerd. Unfortunately, I never had the patience to pursue it.

The reason  I have decided to start Le Wagon part-time is because of I found a job opportunity in a tech startup and I love what I am doing but also want to future-proof my career and upskill for the future. I aim to upskill for the future and so that I can pursue any business ideas without the expense of outsourcing development.

It was a very hard and challenging experience at times but this is why it was so rewarding. I’ve learnt so much and I’m so proud of myself for sticking with it for 6 months. You’ll get great support during the programme and it helps you feel confident for the future.

The most rewarding part of the Le Wagon experience is to have learnt how to solve a problem you’ve been working on for a while.

During the bootcamp we are assigned to a team to elaborate a project together. Everyone has diverse and very different design tastes and skills, which made the exercise of project-weeks fun and taught you how to work together, as a team. Our project was an app to allow you to rate your carbon footprint against an index we made based on a series of questions.

Concerning my career, when I decided to join the bootcamp the ultimate goal I had was to be able to finally be independent and work for myself. Currently, I am working for leading FinTech app to learn as much as possible before I think about going it alone.

These days I think it’s fundamental to learn how to code, even if you don't get the chance to write another line of code after the bootcamp. During your career, you might meet developers and just be able to understand the problems they face. It will allow you to work in a more diverse way!

Another challenge after the bootcamp is to put what we learnt into practice again before it falls out of your head. This means I’ve got to find the time that I was dedicating to Le Wagon and get back to it!

I would recommend this amazing experience to anyone interested in gaining to get more knowledge, start a new challenge and upskill himself. This experience is an incredible way to get out of your comfort zone, you’ll need to manage your working life as well as your new student one, and it’s so rewarding to achieve graduation at the end.

You will not only learn to code, but you can also refine your french accent from all the brilliant lectures. Which are honestly super engaging, and that’s from a person with the smallest attention span.
