đŸ€— Open Source 101: practice your first OSS contribution

Organisé par Le Wagon Tokyo

Description

Have you ever wanted to contribute to open source but didn’t know where to start? In this hands-on workshop, Yuichiro from Hugging Face will guide you through the fundamentals of contributing to open source software (OSS), from understanding what it means to making your very first pull request.

đŸ‘„ Who is this for
Developers who are comfortable with coding and using Git/GitHub to manage their own projects, but have never contributed to an open source repository before.

🧭 What you’ll learn

  • What open source contribution is, why it’s important, how to get started
  • Hands-on practice with a mock repository to learn the basic workflow of OSS contribution: creating issues, making changes, and opening pull requests.
  • For advanced audiences who already have something to contribute in mind, we may help you work on your own project instead of the mock repository.
đŸŽ€ About the speaker:
Yuichiro is a professional software developer with a deep passion for open source software. After working on software development for several machine learning startups, he joined Hugging Face in 2023.
