Get ready for the bootcamp

Our Online Web Development Course is very intense. To save time and nail it from the beginning, our students must complete the prepwork on our custom-built platform before starting the bootcamp. This work takes 30 to 40 hours and gives our students a basic knowledge of:

  • Web 101, how the web works
  • Terminal basic commands
  • Git basic commands
  • HTML / CSS foundations
  • Javascript foundations
  • Tech workflows and tools in a startup

Developer tools & workflow

Work with the right developer tools and workflow. Learn the basics of the command line, use a code text editor and install Ruby with a version management tool. Get familiar with most useful developer packages and learn how to version your code with git and push it on Github.

Programming Basics in Ruby

Write programs manipulating variables, loops, conditions and data structures (Array and Hash). Detect text patterns with Regular Expressions and start parsing data from structured files (CSV, JSON, XML, HTML) fetched using web-scraping or by building requests to JSON APIs.

Software Architecture

Structure your software following Object-Oriented principles. Learn the Model-View-Controller pattern in-depth (most common application design pattern) by coding several MVC softwares from scratch. You will have to code everything on your own, even simulating your database storing data in CSV files.

Relational Database, SQL & ORM

Learn to design a relational database schema and to build structured queries to your database with SQL. Build simple CRUD queries (Create, Read, Update, Delete) or advanced JOIN queries. Learn to connect your database to your ruby software with an ORM (Object Relational Mapping) called Active Record.

Frontend Development

Build your web pages following atomic design principles and code your own UI kit of web components & layouts by applying the latest CSS techniques. Build pages with an adaptive design thanks to media queries and learn to quickly prototype a web app with Bootstrap 4.0 and its responsive grid system.

ES6

Learn ES6, your second programming language after ruby, to add dynamic behaviors to your website or update pages without reloading thanks to AJAX. Understand JavaScript fundamental concepts and learn to use all the necessary JS web tools like Babel, Webpack or yarn.

Ruby on Rails

Wrap it all together by coding your first Ruby on Rails applications. Deploy your applications in production & start coding “the Rails way”. Go deep into Rails discovering advanced concepts like nested resources, namespaces, or how to refactor an app with services or to build an API with Rails.

Cloning Airbnb in teams

Code a clone of Airbnb from scratch in 5 days. You will work in teams to learn to collaborate on Github using pull requests and deploy your apps on Heroku, using the same workflow as successful startups. Implement advanced features (payment, image upload, search, geocoding, background jobs, etc…) and learn to cover your code with tests.

Turn an idea into a product in 2 weeks

Projects Phase is the ultimate experience of the course: invent, pitch, design, code and deploy an original project in teams of 3 or 4 people during the two final weeks. You will have to go through all the process from the idea to the live app in production on a real domain name, ready to be tested on the market!

  • Define the Product's target users and unique value proposition
  • Build an interactive prototype with Figma to validate the UX
  • Split the work in your teams by defining and assigning user stories
  • Code the web application from scratch: from the back-end to the user interface
  • Deploy your app on a production environment
  • Pitch your product during the Demo Day!

Passionate teachers

Since day one, we’ve taken teaching seriously. Great teachers inspire us to connect to topics on a profound level. Experience as a developer alone doesn’t necessarily make one an effective teacher — that’s why we’re passionate about finding not only great engineers, but deeply committed, experienced teachers.

Thanh Tran
Thanh Tran

After a MSc in Management at EM Lyon, Thanh spent a couple of years in the tech industry. Her last stint as a VC Analyst in Singapore drove her to join the bootcamp and she never stopped coding since! She is now a Teacher & Developer at Le Wagon.

Any questions about our program in Online

If you got here, it means that you have questions about Le Wagon: how to apply, who can join, what you’ll learn… Good! We have the answers.

What is it like being a online student?

Le Wagon fulfils the exact same mission everywhere whether you study on campus or online. The curriculum is the same, as are all of our materials (lectures and exercises). Teachers and teaching assistants are hired and trained in the same way all around the globe.

Some key points about our Online Bootcamp :

🌎 Learn from anywhere in the world

👩‍🏫 Benefit from live support from our teachers and interactive class with your classmates

🤝 Be a part of an International community (13,500+ alumni) with 43+ local campuses

Our students all have very different profiles. They are typically between 18 and 55, and they all share the same curiosity and enthusiasm for coding and data. They come from a variety of backgrounds: undergraduates, marketers, engineers, sales, lawyers, journalists, architects, musicians and more.

Working remotely in a team is a skill that many companies are asking for from new employees, and while most people say they know how to work like this, in reality they’ve never done it. The remote Le Wagon course makes you really learn this soft skill and differentiate yourself from others!

What is the application process and when should I apply?

The application process consists of the following steps:

  1. Online application available using this link

  2. Online informal, non-technical interview with our Remote Admissions team

  3. Web Development Bootcamps: Complete our online Web Development Quiz for beginners within 1 week of your interview

  4. Data Science Bootcamps: Complete our online Maths & Python Quiz within 1/2 weeks of your interview (timing dependent on your level of coding)

We will then review your application as a team and let you know if you have been successful in being accepted onto the Bootcamp within 24 hours!

We start Bootcamps every quarter, and open applications roughly 4 months in advance of the start date. We don't have a hard deadline for applications, it just depends on when spaces fill up, usually around 1 month before the start date.

Are your Bootcamps suitable for beginners?

Our Web Development Bootcamp is designed for people with no technical background, which means not having previous coding experience would not impact your ability to complete the course. What our students have in common is a strong willingness to build actionable Tech skills in a short period of time and a desire to learn alongside like-minded people.

Our Data Science Bootcamp requires people to already have some skills in Maths (high school graduate level) and fundamental coding skills in Python.

Motivation and full commitment are the main selection criteria for both bootcamps — as we’ve realised these are the two essential ingredients necessary to turn the Bootcamp experience into a success, no matter your background or previous experience!

People from all kinds of backgrounds join our bootcamps. Aged from 18 - 60, from recent school leavers and University Graduates, to people who have worked 20+ years in completely different fields, including lawyers, hospitality workers, doctors, academics, nurses, teachers, marketers, olympians, bankers, engineers, public sector workers and everything in between.

Graduates go on to work as Software Engineers, Back End Developers, Full Stack Developers, Front End Developers, UX Designers, Product Managers, Technology Consultants, Heads of Engineering, CTOs, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Product Managers, Business Intelligence Analysts, Technical Project Managers, Venture Capitalists and more!

Check out some of our graduate stories.

Some of our Graduates go into freelancing and many have gone down the entrepreneurial route, building their own products and founding their own companies.

You can check out some of the companies founded by our Alumni here.

What equipment do I need to join the Bootcamp?

It is essential to have a fully functional and recent laptop to make the most of the training.

Tablets are not suitable for the purpose of the Bootcamp

Apple

Apple MacBooks should be no older than 2016 and running on macOS Catalina. Any Apple model (I.e. Pro or Air) is suitable for Bootcamps.

Windows

Windows laptops must be running on Windows 10. Here are some recommended specs:

Minimum specs 🐢 (might be a bit slow, but it's workable)

i3 CPU; 8 GB RAM; 64 GO HDD free space

Recommended 👌 (should run without complaining)

i5 CPU; 8 GB RAM; 128 GO SSD free space

Comfortable ⚡ (no doubt this will run everything without an issue)

i7 CPU; 16 GB RAM; 512 GO SSD free space

We recommend sticking with whatever laptop and operating system you are the most comfortable with and quickest at using!

What are the available funding options?

Some funding options may be available depending on your eligibility criteria and your country of residence. During your admission interview, we will help you choose the best option available for you.

Visit the following link to find out more about different funding options in your region.

Once you are admitted, a downpayment will be required upon the Training Agreement signature to secure your seat. The remaining balance shall be paid in one or several instalments, depending on the option available.

How does the Part-Time Bootcamp work?

Our Part-Time Bootcamps cover the exact same content, line for line, as our Full-Time Bootcamps. The 24-week format is designed to fit around a full time job.

There are three live sessions per week:

-- Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 9.30pm

-- Saturdays all day from 10.00am to 5.00pm

In addition, you have some homework and course videos to watch before each session. The Part-time program is really a marathon of 24 weeks! It requires students to be rigorous and do their homework (~5-7 hours per week).

You can find a detailed description of the course schedule and curriculum on our dedicated pages by selecting the Part-Time course option.

Students on our Part-time courses are very similar to Full-time, which means we have a mix of career changers, aspiring engineers and developers, project managers and entrepreneurs, among others.

What Career Support is there after the Bootcamp?

We have both internal and external processes to help you kick-start your career in Tech after the Bootcamp, including:

Career Week. The week after the bootcamp finishes, we organise a structured Career Week for all graduates. During this week, we organise workshops, talks and masterclasses on creating the perfect CV, updating your LinkedIn profile, searching for jobs, mastering technical interviews, tackling tech tests and more... All to help our graduates kickstart their job search, freelancing career or bringing an MVP to market and launching their startup.

We host a Monthly Alumni Stand-up, where we introduce graduates to new hiring partners, and share experiences and resources among our alumni.

Graduates can book in time to speak 1:1 with our Careers Team, for ongoing career support anytime during and after the bootcamp. Who will help you with anything you need, from how to tackle your job search, preparing for interviews, managing offers and salary negotiation, to finding co-founders and fundraising.

We run events throughout the bootcamp giving you the chance to build your network and explore opportunities on the global tech scene. We also host Alumni Discussion Panels, where you can hear about the experience of recent graduates after the bootcamp and get tips on your future career plans.

You will get access to online tools hosted on our learning platform, including hands-on tech-test training and additional learning resources, such as our intro course to React.
